The center of discussion at the town hall meeting this past Monday was an alternative vision from that of Actors’ Equity for what intimate theater can look like in Los Angeles. Presented by Larry Poindexter, the alternative vision (official PDF here) represents input from a large number of interviews with both Union members and theater companies.
The new plan, the Los Angeles Intimate Theatre Code (LAITC), is currently presented as a starting point for discussion. This alternative vision impressed some of those at the town hall meeting who have been previously supportive of Equity’s views. Perhaps that’s because the LAITC represents an evolution of the original 99-Seat Plan (last updated 10 years ago) and is generally consistent with what has been discussed by the Los Angeles theater community from the very first town hall meeting on the subject back in January 2015.
